SWS is excited to announce the appointment of Nick Gifford as our new Chief Executive Officer.
Under Nick’s leadership, SWS will advance its commitment to resource recovery and integrated waste management.
Nick possesses a wealth of experience in the waste management sector and a deep understanding of SWS and its ambition, having served as manager operations since 2022 and acting CEO earlier this year.
Nick has been instrumental in driving key projects throughout his time at SWS, including the multi-million upgrade of the Lutana Waste Transfer Station to become a central hub for resource recovery, which is now nearing completion.
An accomplished environmental engineer and scientist, Nick’s interest in the sector early in his career was driven by its potential to address large-scale environmental challenges. “Waste management offers a unique opportunity to create meaningful and measurable environmental outcomes,” Nick said, “From reducing landfill reliance to promoting waste recovery and circular economy practices.”
As SWS’s new CEO, Nick will further key strategic projects, including large scale future-proofing developments at Copping Waste Precinct to provide safe waste management services for Southern Tasmania when other facilities reach the end of their life.
SWS Chair Christine Mucha expressed the board’s confidence in Nick’s appointment. “Nick has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to innovation and achieving SWS’s strategic goals. We are confident that, under his leadership, SWS will continue to grow as a leader in sustainable waste management,” Mrs Mucher said.
