The Lutana Waste Transfer Station plays a pivotal role in the management of southern Tasmania’s waste stream.
Southern Waste Solutions (SWS) is undertaking a complete redevelopment of the Lutana Waste Transfer Station (WTS), to ensure its ongoing capacity to deliver streamlined management of the majority of Southern Tasmania’s commercial and residential waste and to progress its strategy for the recovery of resources from waste material.
Lutana WTS receives waste generated in the greater Hobart areas, where it is compacted and loaded into sealed container trucks for transport to the Copping Waste Precinct. The redevelopment follows SWS being granted a 20-year extension on its lease over the Lutana site.
The Lutana WTS redevelopment will greatly improve efficiency of operations while further reducing our impact on surrounding commercial and residential neighbours.
The construction of a 1980m2 central transfer station will facilitate 95 percent of waste handling and bulk-up operations being conducted inside a sealable, roofed structure. This will result in a reduction in any noise, odour and dust emissions from operations.
