Southern Waste Solutions (SWS) has achieved a significant milestone in our progress towards transforming Copping from a traditional landfill into the largest precinct for waste and resource recovery in Tasmania.
Having been contractor managed since its establishment 20 years ago, progressing to in-sourcing operations at Copping was the logical next step in our journey.
The new fully in-sourced model gives SWS full control over efficiency, environmental compliance, and future site developments. Operations include management of the C Cell process – Tasmania’s only facility for handling regulated waste volumes.
This significant achievement follows many months of planning, including recruiting and training a new workforce of six operators, led by a highly qualified site manager and a supervisor.
Throughout the transition SWS was dedicated to investing in personnel and state-of-the-art equipment. The investment into an entirely new fleet of plant and equipment ensures complete confidence in our operations for both customers and regulators.
Our Copping Waste Precinct handles nearly 50 per cent of the state’s general and commercial waste volumes and ongoing investment into the site is central to SWS’s commitment to leading the way in waste management and resource recovery.
In-sourcing at the Copping Waste Precinct is part of SWS’ significant capital investment program which also includes the complete overhaul of the Lutana Waste Transfer Station. Read more here.
