The regulated waste story
To ensure waste is classified, handled, and disposed of appropriately, Southern Waste Solutions operates in accordance with the Environment Protection Authority Tasmania (EPA) regulations for the classification and disposal of regulated waste.
Level 1 and Level 2 waste includes household waste, fills and construction materials.
Level 3 regulated waste is material that contains contaminates that require additional levels of management and disposal, including secure storage, beyond what is required in a normal landfill.
Regulated waste that may be accepted includes solids such as contaminated soil, solid paint waste, building materials and industrial residues. All regulated waste material requires prior approval from Environment Protection Authority before it is accepted at the facility.
