SWS accepts and manages waste from local government and commercial customers at both the Lutana Waste Transfer Station and Copping Waste Precinct.

Please note, our facilities are open to SWS account holders, with limited facilities available to the public at the Lutana Waste Transfer Station. Please contact our office if you would like to open an account.

Types of Waste

Municipal Solid Waste

Household rubbish, general waste, not including recyclable waste and FOGO

Commercial and industrial waste

Wastes generated through a commercial process or development.

Construction and demolition waste

Waste from building and demolishing buildings, houses, and commercial property.

FOGO

Food organics and Green Organics – compostable material that can be turned into a usable, valuable product through composting techniques. FOGO can be delivered from households or from commercial entities.

Waste Classification

To ensure waste is classified, handled, and disposed of appropriately, Southern Waste Solutions operates in accordance with the Environment Protection Authority Tasmania (EPA) regulations for the classification and disposal of regulated waste.

Disposal Process

Level 1 and 2 process

The Copping Waste Precinct accepts all levels of regulated waste, asbestos, municipal waste, commercial and industrial waste, construction and demolition waste and contaminated soils

C Cell disposal process (Level 3)

Southern Waste Solutions (SWS) plays a unique and crucial role in waste management, operating Tasmania’s only regulated waste facility, known as the C Cell.

Lutana Waste Transfer Station

The Lutana Waste Transfer Station (WTS) receives and consolidates waste from across the state before it is transported to the Copping Waste Precinct.
